As typhoon "Juan" (Megi) makes landfall in the Philippines, I remember how Jesus calmed the storm in the Sea of Galilee. I've posted the passage below:
Mark 4:35-40
5That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side."36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?"Jesus has authority even over nature. At His word, the turbulent winds and waves came to a halt. He was able to calm the storm then, He can do it today. The only question is, "Do you still have no faith?"
39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.
40He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?"

Lord,
We know that you are in control. We know that out of this calamity will come a glorious realization for our nation.
May You be with us this time, Father. Strengthen our hearts and make us seek You. Teach us to recognize Your protection and grace.
There may be lives and properties lost, but may the seemingly tragic event be an opportunity for people to remember how fleeting life is. May they realize that the only real assurance in this world is in You.
Lord, spare the poor and the homeless. Protect the sick, the children and the elderly. Do not let heavy rainfall cause deadly floods. Be with us, Lord.
Amen.
